Alpha Onyango’s precise 19th-minute strike at Kasarani Stadium ended Gor Mahia’s three-game slump, featuring a heavy 4-1 loss to APS Bomet, a stinging 1-0 Mashemeji Derby defeat to rivals AFC Leopards, and a frustrating 0-0 draw with Bandari FC.

This vital victory boosts the record champions to 23 points from 12 matches, creating a two-point buffer over challengers KCB FC, Police FC, Tusker FC, and Posta Rangers all on 21 points intensifying the title race.

Head coach Charles Akonnor voiced relief, highlighting strong first-half control against a resilient Kakamega side that pushed hard after the break, but stressed the priority of snapping the winless run.

“We were coming from a very difficult period after losing to AFC Leopards and drawing against Bandari FC. However, we were pleased with our performance in the first half against Kakamega Homeboyz.

“In the second half, they made things difficult because they were not an easy side and were pushing to score. What mattered most today was getting back to winning ways, and we managed to do that,” said Akonnor.

Kakamega Homeboyz’s Patrick Odhiambo owned the shortfall, noting failed tactics and committing to deep analysis for improvements ahead.

“We lost the match, and that’s not good. Some of the things we had planned didn’t work out. We now have to go back to the drawing board, identify where we are lacking, and improve in those areas,” Odhiambo said.

Thursday’s FKF Premier League fixtures:

•14:00 – Kariobangi Sharks vs Bidco United (Kasarani Annex)

•15:00 – Murang’a SEAL vs Police FC (St. Sebastian Park)

•16:00 – AFC Leopards vs Ulinzi Stars (Ulinzi Sports Complex)

Gor Mahia head coach Charles Akonnor expressed relief after his side returned to winning ways with a narrow victory over Kakamega Homeboyz in Wednesday’s FKF Premier League match played at the Kasarani Stadium.

Yesterday Alpha Onyango’s 19th-minute strike proved decisive as Gor Mahia secured a 1–0 win over Kakamega Homeboyz, a result that saw the record FKF Premier League champions return to the top of the standings.

Gor Mahia now sit on 23 points from 12 matches, two points clear of KCB FC, Police FC, Tusker FC, and Posta Rangers, who are all tied on 21 points.

The victory ended a three-match winless run for Gor Mahia, which included a 4–1 defeat to APS Bomet, a 1–0 loss to arch-rivals AFC Leopards in the Mashemeji Derby, and a goalless draw against Bandari FC.

On the other hand, Kakamega Homeboyz head coach Patrick Odhiambo admitted his side fell short of expectations.

“We lost the match, and that’s not good. Some of the things we had planned didn’t work out. We now have to go back to the drawing board, identify where we are lacking, and improve in those areas,” Odhiambo said.

The result underscores Gor Mahia’s depth and recovery power in a competitive season, setting up intriguing battles as mid-table teams vie for momentum.

Thursday’s action continues with:

-15:00: Murang’a SEAL vs Police FC (St. Sebastian Park)
