CAF HONOURS PRESIDENT RUTO WITH AN AWARD
President William Ruto has been honoured with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President’s Outstanding Achievement Award during the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony held on November 19 in Rabat, Morocco.
The award was received on his behalf by Kenya’s Ambassador to Morocco, Jessica Gakinya.
This prestigious accolade recognizes President Ruto’s significant support and leadership in advancing football development in Kenya, as well as his role in the successful hosting of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) jointly organized by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Football Kenya Federation President Hussein Mohammed applauded President Ruto’s efforts, highlighting the government’s dedication to setting up elaborate support structures for sports, particularly football, which he believes will soon lead to Kenyan players receiving major continental accolades.
“With the elaborate support structure the government is putting in place for sports and particularly football, I have no doubt our players shall soon be recipients of these coveted accolades as well,” Football Kenya Federation President, Hussein Mohammed, said on the accolade.
CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe praised the East African leaders, including Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan and Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni, who were also honoured for their exceptional contributions to football growth and continental sporting initiatives.
The award, introduced in 2022, acknowledges the important role heads of state play in supporting football within their countries.
Previous recipients include distinguished leaders from Rwanda, Morocco, Cameroon, and Egypt.
