Senator Gloria Orwoba officially out of Senate after IEBC gazettes replacement

Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba has been replaced by Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi after her expulsion from UDA, IEBC confirms.
Nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba is officially out of the Senate following her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) confirming her replacement.
In a gazette notice dated August 15, 2025, IEBC Chairperson Erastus Edung Ethekon named Consolata Nabwire Wakwabubi as the new Nominated Senator representing UDA.
Orwoba was expelled from the President William Ruto-led party in May 2025, accused of gross misconduct and violating the UDA constitution and code of conduct. UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar announced at the time that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had unanimously endorsed the expulsion, acting on recommendations from its Disciplinary Committee.
“After a comprehensive review of the Disciplinary Committee’s report and in line with Article 29 of the UDA Constitution, the NEC found Senator Orwoba’s actions incompatible with the values and objectives of the party,” Omar said in a statement on May 19, 2025.
According to the party, Orwoba made public remarks that allegedly damaged UDA’s image and repeatedly failed to personally respond to summons issued by the disciplinary panel. Instead, she opted to communicate only through her legal representatives.
On May 21, 2025, Senate Speaker Amason Kingi officially declared the seat vacant, paving the way for IEBC to initiate the replacement process.
UDA maintained that Orwoba was granted sufficient opportunity to defend herself but undermined the party’s internal dispute resolution procedures by refusing to appear before the committee in person.
