Ndindi Nyoro warns of school disruptions over delayed capitation funds

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has warned that delayed government disbursement of capitation funds could disrupt learning in public schools, while also calling for fair support for students in private TVET institutions.

Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has warned that if the government fails to release pending capitation funds, learning in public schools across the country could be disrupted.

Speaking during the 5th graduation ceremony of Gorgeous Technical Institute in Thika, Kiambu County, legislator Patrick Wainaina Nyoro highlighted the financial difficulties faced by schools — from primary to senior secondary — due to delayed government disbursements.

Nyoro also emphasized the need for equitable funding for students in technical and vocational education (TVET), regardless of whether they are enrolled in public or private institutions.

“Learners in private TVET institutions should receive state assistance, just like their peers in public colleges,” he stated.

His sentiments were echoed by the institute’s director, Jackline Kibutha, who urged parents to support their children’s pursuit of technical courses. She noted that such skills pave the way for employment and entrepreneurship.

Several graduates voiced optimism about their futures, expressing confidence that the skills gained would help them launch income-generating ventures and uplift their livelihoods.

Nyoro also took the opportunity to criticize the recent fuel price hikes, calling them a strain on the economy and a key factor behind the rising cost of living. He argued that the frequent and unpredictable nature of these changes undermines national competitiveness.

During the ceremony, dozens of graduates received certificates and diplomas in areas including cosmetology, hair and beauty, hospitality, and engineering — disciplines the institution identified as crucial in combating youth unemployment in Kenya.
