Harambee Stars to get Sh2.5 million if they win over Zambia in CHAN

President Ruto pledges Sh2.5 million for each Harambee Stars player if they beat Zambia, with extra rewards for advancing in CHAN.

President William Ruto announced that each player on the national team has already received Sh1 million as a reward for their recent win against Morocco. He also pledged an additional Sh2.5 million for each player if Harambee Stars triumph over Zambia in their upcoming match on Sunday, August 17, 2025.

In addition to monetary rewards, the government has committed to providing affordable housing for the players. If the team progresses past the quarter-finals, Ruto stated that each player will receive Sh1 million and a two-bedroom house. Reaching the semi-finals will earn them a further Sh1 million along with a three-bedroom house in a location of their choice.

Reflecting on Kenya’s journey to becoming a CHAN host nation, President Ruto recounted earlier failed attempts and the skepticism that surrounded the effort.

“When I asked Ababu Namwamba, the then Minister for Sports, to pursue hosting CHAN, many doubted Kenya’s chances. We tried in 1996 and 2018 but did not succeed. But I believed it was doable,” he said.

“There are people who do not believe, but we believe Kenya can. We have not only hosted CHAN but are also witnessing a historic achievement by our boys.”

He credited the team’s unity for their success and encouraged Kenyans to continue supporting the team and reject pessimism.
