Koimett Returns to KQ Board: Veteran PS Bolsters Lender Representation

Former Principal Secretary Esther Jepkemboi Koimett, CBS, has been appointed as a non-executive director to the Kenya Airways board, representing KQ Lenders Company 2017 Limited, effective January 26, 2026.

In a s statement on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the company described Esther Koimett as one of Kenya’s most distinguished and experienced public servants.

“Ms. Koimett is an accomplished public servant with over 35 years’ experience spanning across investment promotion, banking, privatisation, public enterprise reform, and public policy,” read part of the statement.

With over 35 years in public service, her return brings expertise in investment promotion, banking, privatization, and policy to the airline’s governance amid ongoing financial recovery.

Koimett’s Impressive Track Record

Koimett previously served as PS for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Transport, and Investment Secretary at the National Treasury, plus roles at Kenya Post Office Savings Bank.

She chaired M-Pesa Holdings and AAR Insurance, and sat on KQ’s board before, holding a Bcom, MBA from the University of Nairobi, and Strathmore’s AMP.

Her experience aligns with KQ’s needs for strategic transactions and reforms.
