Tragic Kirinyaga Heartbreak: Unmarried Man’s Suicide Note Demands Swift Burial, Family Stranded in GriefAGrief

A Kirinyaga family remains in profound shock after 60 year-old Kimunyu took his own life by jumping into River Nyamindi, leaving explicit instructions for his burial that authorities and finances now thwart.

The unmarried bachelor had voiced distress beforehand but received no intervention, culminating in his body retrieval on Tuesday with clothes and Ksh 200 intact.

Final Wishes Ignored

Kimunyu instructed relatives to bury him within 24 hours if found in the river, a plea his sister Ann Njeri relayed amid tears, noting his friendly community ties.

“He said that if he threw himself into the river, he should be buried within 24 hours. He was a good person and friendly to everyone in the community, but he never married,” said his sister, Ann Njeri.

He died Sunday, yet by Tuesday, police mandated a post-mortem examination the family cannot afford at Ksh 10,000.

His 90-year-old mother, Peris Wanjiru Kamunyu, lamented the lack of support without his marriage or group affiliations.

“We have no money to bury him. The police say a post-mortem must be conducted, but we do not have the Ksh. 10,000 needed,” Njeri said, fighting back tears.

Njeri highlighted transport woes to Kianyaga Police Station for an affidavit to proceed to Kiarigi village burial.

Village elder Duncan Njiru echoed concerns over the missed deadline and retrieval challenges from River Nyamindi. Authorities continue engaging the destitute kin, underscoring mental health gaps in rural Kenya
