Authorities stopped the vehicle around midnight amid heightened efforts to combat narcotics trafficking within the region.

According to reports from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), officers based at Kyumbi had flagged down the vehicle, in the Kaloleni area.

The driver, however, ignored the directive and accelerated toward Mutituni, prompting a chase.

The driver attempted to evade police, prompting a chase that ended with the arrest and seizure of the large consignment of cannabis.

The intercepted bhang is valued at several million Kenyan shillings, underscoring the scale of the drug trafficking operation dismantled by the police.

This episode adds to a series of recent successful drug busts within Machakos County, reflecting intensified enforcement targeting cannabis smuggling routes.

Law enforcement officials continue investigations to uncover the source and destination networks involved in this illicit trade.

Machakos County Commissioner Josephine Ouko confirmed the arrest and noted additional evidence was recovered from the vehicle, including multiple registration number plates linked to other vehicles, suggesting attempts to obscure the vehicle’s identity for illegal activities.

The intercepted vehicle has been impounded as part of the ongoing legal process.

This arrest aligns with national efforts to curb drug trafficking and related crimes, which have seen a rise in crackdowns following public and governmental pressure.

Continued vigilance by police and community members remains crucial in the fight against narcotics distribution across Kenya.

This decisive police action in Machakos demonstrates the authorities’ resolve to tackle drug trafficking through enhanced patrols and operations, aimed at safeguarding public health and security in the region
