OBURU OGINGA OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED AS ODM PARTY LEADER

The National Governing Council (NGC) approved the appointment in a special sitting held in Mombasa ahead of the party’s 20th anniversary celebrations.

Oburu had been serving as acting party leader since October 16, 2025, following Raila Odinga’s demise.

Alongside Oburu’s confirmation, the NGC also ratified several key party leadership positions, including three deputy leaders: Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir, Kisii Governor Simba Arati, and Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi.

Kisumu Woman Representative Ruth Odinga and Kisumu West MP Rosa Buyu were approved as Deputy Organising Secretary and Secretary of Political Affairs, respectively.

These appointments will officially take effect following approval by the party’s National Delegates Convention (NDC).

Oburu Oginga, echoing a message of unity and continuity, pledged to unite the party and safeguard ODM’s independence as it charts a way forward after the loss of Raila Odinga, a political giant who led ODM for decades.
