UDA FIRES BACK AT RIGATHI GACHAGUA OVER ALLEGED PLOT TO DISRUPT MBEERE NORTH BY-ELECTION
The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has strongly rebutted former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s claims that there are threats of violence ahead of the November 27, 2025, by-election in Mbeere North Constituency.
In response to Gachagua’s public letter to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, where he accused senior government officials of sponsoring goons to intimidate voters and warned of escalating political violence, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar Hassan dismissed the allegations as baseless and imagined.
UDA’s letter, dated November 13, 2025, challenged Gachagua to address allegations of fraud concerning a purported parliamentary candidate within the Democratic Congress Party (DCP) and accused him of swindling money from locals during nomination processes.
“Their ultimatum is clear, simple, and rooted in justice. As you plan to set foot in Mbeere territory, prepare to refund every penny you swindled from their kinsmen. This is not political opposition; it is a demand for basic financial accountability,” he noted.
The party emphasized its commitment to peaceful campaigns, stating that since the vacancy of the Mbeere North seat, its campaign efforts have been conducted with complete tranquility and no incidents of violence have been recorded.
The UDA also condemned attempts to associate its candidate, Leo Wamuthede, with the alleged violence, asserting that such claims only serve to distract from key issues including electoral fraud accusations against Gachagua.
“You are well advised that the peace-loving people of Mbeere have no intentions of castrating you, interfering with any part of your anatomy, or retaining any,” UDA noted.
“Their dignity is focused on revitalized development and transformative programmes being spearheaded by the broad-based government, not on your personal anatomy.”
The letter reiterated UDA’s stance against any form of violence and called on all parties to allow the people of Mbeere North to exercise their democratic rights peacefully.
This exchange highlights the tense political climate ahead of the by-election, with UDA distancing itself firmly from the violence allegations while accusing Gachagua of political maneuvering and financial impropriety.
The Mbeere North by-election remains a significant contest, viewed as a test for both Gachagua and President William Ruto’s influence in the Mt. Kenya region.
