TANZANIAN PRESIDENT CALLS FOR DIALOGUE FROM OPPOSITION

The government’s invitation to talks comes amid escalating tensions and international criticism over the crackdown on protests triggered by opposition parties challenging the recent election results.

President Samia’s call for reconciliation aims to ease the political unrest that followed her near unanimous election victory but was marred by widespread demonstrations and allegations of excessive use of force by security agencies.

The arrest of opposition figures, including CHADEMA Secretary General Amani Golugwa, has intensified calls for political engagement to restore peace.

“It is President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s intention to ensure that we begin a process of reconciliation, so that even the minority can be heard, building a nation of peace, unity, and stability that continues to serve as a model for Africa and the world,” said Vice President Emmanuel Nchimbi, addressing reporters in Dar es Salaam.

The Tanzanian government hopes the dialogue will rebuild investor confidence and stabilize the nation after the post-election turmoil.

“President Samia Suluhu Hassan has asked me to assure you that our country remains safe, stable, and open to visitors from around the world,” Vice President Nchimbi added.

Amid concerns about human rights, President Samia emphasized the importance of political reconciliation to safeguard democracy and national unity.

“I want to assure you that the President is committed to ensuring Tanzania’s continued peace and development,” Nchimbi said, praising the efforts of past leaders and emphasizing the government’s resolve to steer the nation toward stability.

This situation poses significant regional implications, with Kenya’s foreign minister expressing concern over the safety of Kenyan citizens caught up in the Tanzanian unrest and calling for their protection.
