FORMER KENYATTA UNIVERSITY LECTURER SUES DRIVER FOR STEALING KSH. 1.4 MILLION
A former Kenyatta University lecturer has sued his driver for siphoning Ksh. 1.4 million from his bank accounts, according to court proceedings in Eldoret.
The retired professor, aged 76 and formerly serving in Exercise and Sports Science at the university, testified that his trusted driver, Kevin Kipruto Lagat, secretly obtained his M-Pesa PIN and used it to transfer money from his bank accounts.
The professor said he often allowed the driver to conduct money transactions using his mobile phone in his presence, which Lagat exploited.
Court documents reveal that Lagat fraudulently transferred Ksh. 550,304 from the lecturer’s KCB account to the phone number of a deceased person whose phone was registered 15 years ago.
Additionally, the accused allegedly accessed another KCB account belonging to the lecturer and transferred Ksh. 480,000 without authorization.
These criminal actions occurred between December 23, 2023, and January 27, 2025, in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County.
The retired lecturer had reported the matter to Naiberi police station in Ainabkoi sub-county and recorded an official statement.
The accused player is represented by lawyer Tecla Tum, and the case is set for further hearing on January 26, 2026, before Eldoret Chief Magistrate Dennis Mikoyan.
