MIKE SONKOS SPEAKS OUT ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AFTER DAUGHTER’S ABUSE INCIDENT IN KITENGELA

The incident unfolded after Salma made a distress call to her mother, reporting that her husband had physically assaulted her.

According to Salma, she was slapped twice by her husband in Kitengela after she asked for breakfast for their children.

Sonko revealed that this was not the first time his daughter had experienced violence in her marriage, indicating that Salma had been assaulted more than ten times before.

Despite this, Sonko had stayed silent, supporting the couple financially by paying their rent, providing for their children, and helping with their expenses.

Angrily, Sonko confronted his son-in-law in Kitengela, questioning why he was abusing Salma despite the financial support he had given them.

He warned the husband against further violence and urged him to come to his home to resolve their issues peacefully.

Sonko also condemned violence in relationships and pleaded with young couples to choose dialogue over conflict.

Sonko took his daughter back home and accompanied her to Nairobi Women’s Hospital for a medical examination.

He emphasized that victims of gender-based violence can seek free help and treatment at the hospital and called for an end to domestic abuse.

Throughout the confrontation, Salma appeared protective of her husband, shielding him from any retaliation by Sonko’s security detail.

Sonko, however, stressed that violence is never the answer, and promised to intervene decisively if such abuse continued.

This incident has drawn wider attention to the issue of domestic violence in Kenya, with Sonko’s public stance highlighting the need for support systems for victims and stricter responses to abuse in families
