MACHAKOS COUNTY AND OGA OBINNA IN A HEATED DISPUTE OVER SAMMY KIOKO’S ALLEGED UNPAID KSH19 MILLION DEBT
Obinna TV, hosted by Steve Thompson Magana popularly known as Oga Obinna, is facing scrutiny following comedian Sammy Kioko’s emotional revelations about unpaid pending bills owed to him by the Machakos County government.
In a widely viewed episode titled “When Politics Crushes Dreams: Sammy Kioko’s Heartbreaking Story,” Kioko shared his struggles after supplying goods to the county, revealing that he is owed about Ksh 19 million.
He described attempts to reach Governor Wavinya Ndeti for payment, including being denied entry to the county offices and the resultant financial hardships that forced him to close his shops and lay off employees.
In response, the Machakos County government, through a letter dated November 12, 2025, directed Obinna TV to provide documentary evidence proving that the county owes Sammy Kioko any funds.
The county dismissed Kioko’s claims as false and misleading, insisting he is not registered as a supplier nor associated with any company supplying goods or services to Machakos County.
The county accused Obinna TV’s show of misleading the public and fostering a negative narrative about the county without evidence.
The County Solicitor warned Obinna TV against publishing unverified information and threatened legal action should they fail to produce proof of the alleged debt.
“Failure to supply us with the documents confirming the said Sammy Kioko’s claim will force us to take action against yourselves for hosting, publishing, and disseminating false information,” stated the County Solicitor.
This move comes amid wider political tensions and allegations of irregularities in county procurement processes.
Despite the legal pressure, Obinna TV continues to highlight Sammy Kioko’s plight, which has resonated deeply with Kenyans given the emotional testimony shared on the show.
Fans of Obinna TV have also rallied to support Kioko’s family during this difficult time, raising funds to help alleviate some of the financial pressure he faces.
