Comedian Sammy Kioko’s picture camping outside the Machakos Governor’s office is one notable image showing him seated beside his vehicle at night near the county offices, visibly frustrated as he seeks an audience to discuss delayed payments allegedly owed to him by the county government. The building, known as the “White House,” is the Machakos County governor’s office and serves as the backdrop of his silent protest.

COMEDIAN SAMMY KIOKO CAMPS OUTSIDE MACHAKOS GOVERNOR’S OFFICE OVER DELAYED PAYMENT

The comedian, known for his engaging performances, took the unusual step of physically staying at the governor’s gate to press for the outstanding dues, drawing public attention to the plight of entertainers awaiting compensation from county governments.

He says he’s been at the governor’s office since morning till late but that has not bore any fruits. He tried calling and asking for the governor but his calls are not answered and the people around are not bothered by his presence.

“Things are not okay. I just want to see the governor. We already finished the work, but we haven’t been paid. Those who supply to the county tell us how long does it take before someone is paid? What we need now is to talk to the governor and see if he can help,”he expressed his frustrations.

This act of protest reflects ongoing challenges faced by artists in securing timely payments for their work, often struggling with bureaucratic delays and financial bottlenecks in devolved units.

Sammy Kioko’s persistent stand has sparked conversations about improving support and accountability for creatives who contribute significantly to the cultural scene and public events hosted by county administrations.

The comedian’s move earned sympathy from fans and fellow entertainers who advocated for a streamlined payment system that respects contracts and recognizes the value performers bring to public engagements.

This incident highlights the broader issue of artist welfare within Kenya’s entertainment industry and the need for reforms to protect artists’ rights while enhancing transparency in public financial management at the county level
